3 Pinterest Quick Tips

3 Pinterest Quick Tips

A few snack sized Pinterest tips to get your pinning power perked up…

Snack No. 1

I had the pleasure of seeing Scott Stratten from UnMarketing speak this week. He has a no nonsense but fun approach to marketing. If you have the slightest interest in marketing and like to laugh at the silly marketing things companies do, I highly recommend that you check out his site and his books.

During his presentation he had this gem to share….

Pinterest has become popular because of Passions -Scott Stratten Quote

I couldn’t agree more! If you want your blog, brand or company to be successful on Pinterest, remember, people repin and follow accounts on Pinterest because they appeal to their passions and needs, not because they love the latest ad campaign.

Be a resource for pinners. Pin with a service mindset not a profit mindset.

Just in case you missed this week’s episode of The Oh So Pinteresting podcast, here are 2 nuggets from it that I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss.

Snack No. 2

You always want to make the most out of your Pinterest account’s profile description. With the old look, you had 200 characters to describe how awesome you are.

Now, with the new look whether in a personal account or in a business account, you only have 160 characters to use. Since this space is even more limited, it is even more important to focus on what words you want to use to represent your account.

When creating or adjusting your account description, keep searchable keywords in mind. Use key words that describe your blog or business but please do so without being spammy. PLEASE don’t use hashtag after hashtag in your description. Besides, hashtags have never worked in account descriptions and now, they no longer work on Pinterest at all.

Snack No. 3

One of the biggest complaints I’ve heard about Pinterest’s new look is not being able to move your boards. I have some GREAT NEWS, you can move your boards!

In the old look, there was a film strip looking icon above your boards that needed to be clicked to make your boards movable. Then you had to click a red check mark to save your new arrangement.

Now, the icon is gone, all that you need to do to is simply click on the cover image of a board and drag it to the location you would like to move it to. That’s it, your board has a new home, no need to click anything to save.

    Hello Cindy,
There are some new changes on Pinterest. Now links and hashtags are working.
Before the number of characters was limited to 148 on the email, now it seems that there is no limitation

Such good news to hear that links and hashtags are working again. Thanks for sharing that with us!

What do you mean about the number of characters in the email?

I have checked before the number of characters on the email form of Pinterest (next to the pin). Before there were limited to 148 characters, now it seems there is no limitation with the new design, which is much better.

Here is one more tip for Pinterest:

The pin in button or bookmarklet is cross-browser. This means that it will work on a modern browser on a pc, mac, and even mobile devices like an iphone or ipad.

Despite the the fact that may, or even most, photographers simply don’t like the whole idea behind pinterest I do have and use the site.

Despite everyone’s complaint about copyright which is the biggest issue that photographers have with the site it doesn’t seem to be very productive for service oriented business. It works better for product oriented business. That despite the fact that tip #1 said keep a service mindset when using the site.

Oh well, Fact is often stranger than fiction but that’s the way of it I guess.

Thank you for sharing and have a happy day,

    Barry
