A big part of social media is getting the opportunity to connect with people. This is an area that currently, Pinterest is limited. In a previous Friday Quick Tip, I explained how to recommend a pin or tag a pin to someone by using @. And sure,  you can also leave comments on pins but, neither really offer a good way to strike up a conversation with someone.

The Social Icons

Notice those little symbols underneath the about statement? Those are links to other platforms where you can be more social.

  • The globe links you to a blog or website where you might be able to leave comments or send an email.
  • The little bird links to a Twitter account
  • The F links to a personal Facebook account
  • The pointer tells the location

By clicking one of those links, you can then carry the conversation on that platform. Of course all of the privacy settings on the linked Facebook account still apply so you may have to send a friend request first.

On your own account, you may see buttons that look like these. You can click on them to link your Facebook, Twitter accounts, your website and give your location.

What if you the shy type and don’t want to share your Facebook or Twitter? What if commenting and repining on Pinterest is plenty social for you? Don’t worry, you are not required to share any information that you are not comfortable with.

Changing your Mind

You always have the option to adjust the settings of your account to change what appears on your profile page. Here’s how

  1. Hover over your name in the top right corner to get the drop down menu to appear. Click settings
  2. Click the “switches” to the settings you want
  3. Click Save Profile to save

Do you have your account linked to your Facebook or Twitter account?

What social feature would you like to see on Pinterest?
