We are talking about Instagram marketing! <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019re probably double-checking to confirm you are on the Tailwind blog right now. Don\u2019t worry. We are still your favorite tool for smarter Pinterest marketing. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The truth is that many of our users have been requesting Instagram features, <strong>and we&#8217;ve been listening. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the last year we have been building out and testing Instagram publishing. To date, we haven\u2019t talked about it very much. The majority of the features we built early on were designed for our Enterprise users. Needless to say, you\u2019ll be hearing quite a bit more about your favorite photo sharing network on our blog! <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As with everything we do, our focus with Instagram is to give you the best tools, resources and information to build your audience, increase engagement and, most importantly, grow your business. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that, let\u2019s dig into your biggest questions about using Instagram for business. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-curating-great-content-for-instagram\"><b>Curating Great Content for Instagram <\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number one question we get asked is, \u201cHow do I build an Instagram following?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While it\u2019s a great question, it isn\u2019t step number one. Before you start filling up your feed with countless selfies or the classic quote image, you need to define your brand voice on Instagram. Images need to align with your brand, thus promoting your values and mission.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise you could end up with a string of seemingly random cat photos when your business identify revolves around fashion. If you\u2019re a travel company, this could be an&nbsp;adventure. If you\u2019re a women\u2019s clothing company, perhaps you want to portray confidence. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The better you become at curating content that matches your brand and identifies with your target audience, the faster your ideal customers will connect with your account. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever your unique brand essence, that\u2019s what your feed should focus on projecting. This helps you stay organized and can even play into putting together a larger Instagram marketing campaign. We have a free <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tailwindapp.com\/blog\/resources\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">printable Instagram Content Calendar you can download here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-build-an-instagram-following\"><b>How Do I Build an Instagram Following? <\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now for the big question, \u201cHow do I grow my audience?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you go to post, it\u2019s important to determine which conversations you want to be involved in. <strong>This is where hashtags come into play<\/strong>. Users follow hashtags to view content around their interests. When you use hashtags, it automatically lists your photo into that specific search. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research active tags that match your brand. When you match the right tags with engaging content, Instagram users who like your feed will start to follow you. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some conversations are very loud, with hundreds of users adding content to the topic every hour. Similar to picking keywords, these are the hashtags with higher competition and more volume. While they may be highly relevant, it\u2019s harder to be seen with them. The key is to try out different groups of hashtags to try and increase engagement. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engagement is a two-way street. If you are looking to have users comment, like and connect with your account, it\u2019s smart to do the same. Follow relevant hashtags and get involved in the conversation. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>One incredibly underused Instagram marketing strategy is @mentions. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are several different ways to go about @mentions, several of which you will see the top accounts taking advantage of. The best way for rapid growth is to craft content that prompts your followers to @mention their friends in the comments. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many posts that successfully use this tactic go viral. This is one of the more advanced Instagram marketing tactics. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another effective strategy, that is easier to deploy regardless of size, is to create a &#8220;tribe&#8221; on Instagram. This is a group of users who are trying to reach similar groups on Instagram. You agree to share each other\u2019s content, calling out to your audience to follow their account. They share your content, organically helping to increase reach.* &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While you are building your tribe, use @mention in your description to build rapport with other accounts. <strong>Remember, social media is a great tool to build connections and engage with people. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like every social platform, consistency is key. Similar to Pinterest, it\u2019s important to post regularly but not over post. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sharing someone else\u2019s content, even your follower\u2019s, is a great way to both grow your audience and a build a relationship with followers. Be sure to always have permission before you share or repost another user\u2019s photo to not violate Instagram\u2019s rules.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-good-instagram-tools\"><b>What Are Good Instagram Tools?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our Instagram features at Tailwind aren\u2019t live yet, but we can promise that they will make all analytic and keyword loving marketers very happy.&nbsp;Beyond analytics, we will also have a simple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tailwindapp.com\/instagram-scheduling-and-publishing\">scheduling tool<\/a> with times based on when your audience is most active. <strong>Sounds great, right?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not to sing our own praises, but our new tool is going to be fantastic. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We promise it will be live soon. Until then, we want to give you several Instagram marketing tools you can start using today.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best place to start for insights right now is actually on Instagram. They recently opened new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.business.instagram.com\/post\/145212269021\/new-business-tools\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">business insights on their business page tools<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Designed to help you create better ads, this tool unlocks lots of useful analytics about your account. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hashtagify.me\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hashtagify.me<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a great starter tool&nbsp;for evaluating different hashtags you can use for your business. You start by entering a term in the search toolbar. Hashtagify then gives you insights to how popular that specific term is as well as listing related hashtags. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For help creating spectacularly captivating content, explore <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canva<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/spark.adobe.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adobe Spark<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Both platforms give you pre-formatted templates for each social platform as well as templates to start creating from. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/repost-for-instagram\/id570315854?mt=8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Repost<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> makes it easy to repost another user\u2019s photo to your feed while giving due credit to the original poster. This can be a great tool to highlight followers and send love to your dedicated audience. While Repost doesn\u2019t require having permission before reposting an image, it\u2019s important to ask before posting to not violate Instagram\u2019s terms of use. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.soldsie.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soldsie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> helps turn your profile link into a virtual storefront. Now you can do what you\u2019ve been craving, turning your photos into a funnel for buying. They have two different options. The first transforms your profile link into a buyable photo gallery. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-evaluate-analytics-and-stats\"><b>How Do I Evaluate Analytics and Stats? <\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As you know, we love evaluating analytics and digging into numbers. This also applies to Instagram. Which brings us to another commonly asked question, \u201cHow do I evaluate analytics from Instagram?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to start evaluating your numbers, it\u2019s <strong>important to know what your goals are for Instagram<\/strong>. Companies use Instagram for a variety of purposes, which range from increasing awareness, driving traffic to the website or selling products. Desired metrics vary by goal. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most brands use Instagram to focus on brand awareness, which is a top of funnel activity. Measurements to consider for this goal are follows, likes and comments. Often times you will hear guru\u2019s say these are \u201cvanity metrics.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is it still vanity if it gets the job done? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We think that these \u201cvanity metrics\u201d are valuable for top of the funnel brand awareness. They achieve the desired goal, which is to have more users interact with and see content from the brand. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps you are using Instagram as a tool for lower in your sales funnel. If driving traffic to your website, converting on sales or capturing e-mails is your goal, then your data gem is how many people access your website through Instagram. To track that, add a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hubspot.com\/marketing\/what-are-utm-tracking-codes-ht#sm.00000nw7g3lieidznwf4wq76yf9sh\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UTM tracking code<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or use a <a href=\"https:\/\/bitly.com\">Bitly link<\/a> in your profile. From there you can see if your Instagram traffic converts on your website specific goals. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-share-links\"><b>How Do I Share Links? <\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re new to Instagram, you might have noticed that there aren\u2019t a lot of ways to embed your links into posts. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We get asked all the time, \u201cWhen will Instagram start allowing links on posts?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>In truth, we don\u2019t know if they ever will.<\/strong> Which means as marketers we need to be strategic about getting users to our websites. Right now there are three different ways to include links on Instagram. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first is the profile link. This is your only formal, and free, link on Instagram. If you frequently share blog posts or run different promotions, it often makes sense to change out the link to direct to your most recent promotion. This is great if your followers typically only engage with your most recent content. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second option is to use a tool like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.soldsie.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soldsie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to create clickable photo galleries. This converts your profile link into a digital storefront that users can browse. One thing to consider is that engagement goes down the more clicks we require from users. Soldsie adds an additional click to view your virtual storefront. If you use a tool like Soldsie, measure the sales and conversions to make sure it\u2019s worth the monthly fee. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last is the most effective and scalable option. Oddly enough, it\u2019s also the one that businesses shy away from the most. <strong>Yes, we\u2019re talking about Instagram ads. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re not quite sure why businesses avoid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/a\/advertise-instagram\">Instagram ads<\/a>,&nbsp;(or <a href=\"https:\/\/tailwindapp.com\/blog\/pinterest-advertising-make-the-most-of-your-first-promoted-pins-campaign\">Promoted<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;Pins for that matter)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Instagram advertising gives you the option to have a tailored landing page, control the user experience, reach more users and measure your results. If you are able to generate more revenue than the cost of the ads, most likely it\u2019s a great avenue for your business. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-will-tailwind-be-ready-for-me-to-use\"><b>When Will Tailwind Be Ready for Me to Use? <\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hopefully this is your biggest burning question right now!
