In the past few weeks new Pinterest features have bloomed. Some have the potential to be great for businesses on Pinterest but unfortunately, that&#8217;s not the case for all of them.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/twprod.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/New-Pinterest-Features-the-Good-and-the-Bad-pin.png\" alt=\"New Pinterest Features the Good and the Bad\" class=\"wp-image-9964 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the new Pinterest features only impact mobile app users but given that <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2014\/02\/06\/now-with-75-of-all-traffic-coming-from-apps-pinterest-revamps-its-mobile-website\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over 75%<\/a> of Pinterest users access Pinterest from a mobile app, businesses should definitely take notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New features include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Guided Search<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New profile pictures<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Notifications<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Related boards<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s take how these new Pinterest features can be good or bad for businesses using Pinterest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-guided-search\"><strong>Guided search<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 24, 2014 Pinterest held a product launch event called &#8220;Choose Your Own Adventure.&#8221; Prior to the event some predicted it would be a a <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2014\/04\/16\/pinterests-choose-your-own-adventure-could-be-a-travel-product\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel related<\/a> feature that would attract more men to Pinterest. Others predicted that it would be a full scale release of &nbsp;the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/socialnewsdaily.com\/36003\/pinterest-choose-your-own-adventure-product-launch\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Explore Interests&#8221;<\/a> feature which began rolling out to users earlier this year. <em>They were both wrong.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the event Pinterest co-founder, Ben Silbermann revealed Guided Search. In a nutshell, the new feature comes into play when a user enters a search term in the Pinterest search box, they&#8217;re offered additional words to add to their search phrase that guides them to new results. It&#8217;s kind of like the books and video games where your choice of the given options lead you down different paths and to different results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To access Guided Search, click on the magnifying glass located on the bottom of the screen for iOS app users and at the top of the screen for Android users.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/twprod.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Pinterest-iPhone-App-search.jpg\" alt=\"Pinterest iPhone app search\" class=\"wp-image-8070 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One point of confusion with Guided Search has been that you can&#8217;t specify whether you&#8217;re searching for pins, boards or pinners until you begin to type. Once you submit your search word or phrase you will be offered a scrollable list of words to add. You can choose to add Pinterest&#8217;s suggested words or phrases or continue to add your own. &nbsp;This feature is not available when searching for boards or pinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/twprod.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Pinterest-Guided-Search-Menu.jpg\" alt=\"Pinterest Guided Search Menu\" class=\"wp-image-8076 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The addition of Guided Search can help businesses&#8217; pins be found on Pinterest but it&#8217;s now <strong>more important than ever for businesses on Pinterest to have their pins optimized with searchable keywords<\/strong>. Keywords should be included any where text is available on Pinterest but for Guided Search<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong> they&#8217;re vital<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. &nbsp;Including keywords relevant to your niche in pin descriptions can be the difference between a pint hat goes ignored and one that brings traffic to your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The addition of Guided Search meant the loss of &#8220;Explore Interests&#8221; on the mobile app, this greatly disappointed me. For a few short weeks I was able to enjoy easily finding pins outside of Pinterest&#8217;s 32 categories. Notice how part of my logo is now cut off? Adding branding to your Pinterest profile picture can help your account stand out as a business account. If you have wording or a logo as a part of your Pinterest profile picture check it on a mobile app to make sure important parts aren&#8217;t cut off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-notifications\">Notifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Notifications have also changed recently on Pinterest and not for the better. &nbsp;In the past, you could always see the pin that was being repinned. Now, Pinterest has changed the notification system to show you a tiny collage of the board that the pin was pinned and only sometimes showing the pin. It was so helpful to take a look at my notifications and see, at a glance, which of my pins were getting a lot of attention that day. <em>What a bummer!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change applies to both mobile and web versions of Pinterest.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/twprod.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/New-Pinterest-notifications-limit-information.jpg\" alt=\"New Pintaerest notifications limit information\" class=\"wp-image-8080 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-related-boards\">Related boards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinning new content to share with your existing followers and following others on Pinterest are 2 things can <strong>can contribute to your Pinterest success<\/strong>. On the mobile app, Pinterest helps you out a bit by giving you an easy way to find related boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find related boards simply tap and hold on the cover of any board. Slide your finger up to the lightbulb icon and release. You will then see a list of boards with similar titles and pins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve tried this with both my own boards about Pinterest and with other&#8217;s.
