It tested three different layouts for combining the buttons for the new features with the buttons for the existing features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">*Testing, testing* different versions of the home screen. \u2728<br> <br>Open Instagram and you\u2019ll soon see a Reels and Shop tab in one of these layouts.<br> <br>These updates represent how people are using the app and giving extra love to creators, videos and shopping.   <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Rnyf37ddQb\">pic.twitter.com\/Rnyf37ddQb<\/a><\/p>\u2014 Instagram (@instagram) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/instagram\/status\/1303726253220835329?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 9, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>Instagram played around with the placement of the Explore, New Post, Activity, Reels, and Shop tabs on the bottom row and top right corner of the Instagram home screen before revealing the final version on November 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although changes to our beloved platforms can be challenging to adjust to, this update promises engaging new features without losing any of your old favorites!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-introducing-the-reels-and-shop-tabs\"><strong>Introducing the Reels and Shop Tabs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The reason behind the layout update was making room for some of the platform&#8217;s newest features, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tailwindapp.com\/blog\/instagram-reels\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram Reels <\/a>and Shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reels offers entertaining, short-form videos specifically curated for your interests, similar to TikTok.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tailwindapp.com\/blog\/facebook-instagram-shops\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram Shop<\/a> gives you a place to discover new brands, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tailwindapp.com\/blog\/support-small-business-sticker-instagram\" target=\"_blank\">support small businesses<\/a>, and purchase quality products &#8211; all uniquely selected to match interests you have already expressed on Instagram!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri took to Twitter to explain the changes and the reasoning behind them! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;We know major changes to the app are going to be met with some skepticism, but we also know that the biggest threat that we face is that the world changes around us, and what we do becomes less relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we want to lean into those changes and we want to adapt to avoid that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite>Adam Mosseri<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This week we added tabs for Reels and Shop given how important video and shopping are to Instagram, and how much we\u2019ve seen both grow, particularly this year. Now the bottom row of the app\u2019s layout includes the <strong>Home, Explore, Reels, Shop, and Profile<\/strong> buttons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The buttons for New Post, Activity, and Direct Messages can be found on the top right corner of your Instagram home screen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the Reels and Shop feature, Instagram also added an \u201cAdd\u201d button to the Profile page.
