Easy Pinterest Rich Pins WordPress Plugin OSP Episode 043

Pinterest rich pins bring more information and branding to your pins but can be complicated to do. A WordPress plugin is now available to make the whole process easy.

Easy Pinterest Rich Pins WordPress Plugin

WordPress developer Phil Derksen has created a plugin that takes the complicated process of enabling rich pins on self-hosted WordPress sites and made it super easy. He’s creates plugins specifically for article rich pins and one for product rich pins.

To better explain rich pins and the process of installing the plugin and the benefits of rich pins I invited Phil to record a Google+ Hangout which you can watch below. I figured in this case a video would be easier to understand that trying to describe everything in just the audio podcast.

The audio podcast episode does include more information about rich pins including place pins. It also includes this week’s Pinterest tip of the week inspired by a question from Jillian Jackson at TF Cornerstone about decluttering your Pinterest pins.

If you have a minute, I’d really appreciate if you’d hop on over to iTunes and leave the podcast a rating or review. It really helps me to improve the show and helps to keep the podcast visible in the iTunes directory. Thanks!

If you were already using OpenGraph and the article og:type you should be able to just apply for Rich Pins verification, no new plugin necessary. What I want and may have to cobble together is a plugin that tracks pins in Google Analytics. I’ve gotten it working on static HTML pages and custom PHP pages, but considering I like the plugins I’m already using I’d prefer someone else solves this problem rather than me write custom code. Basically you can use jQuery to add the onClick Google Analytics event tracking, but getting it just so and drag and drop install is the key.

Sounds like a great idea for a plugin. Keep me updated on the progress.

I was nearly about to purchase this plugin but I thought that there must be an easier and cheaper way than just adding another plugin to my blog!

As Muskie above has said all you need is Facebook’s OG tags and your good to go! I just made sure that I had Yoast’s SEO Plugin and made sure under social that I had the Add Open Graph meta data checked, Then I validated > Applied and today I got the email saying that I got Rich Pins approved!
Took me 5 mins to do and I did not need a plugin!

Of course there are a lot of features to this plugin and Phil has done a good job with it so well done with it. But I did not want to add another plugin to my collection as it adds to the weight of the blog!

I love the idea of a plugin integrated with Google Analytic’s though! Interesting post and I enjoyed watching the hangout!
    All the best

Phillip, thank you for your comment! I followed your suggestion and did this through Yoast’s SEO plugin and it was so easy (which is good because I’m no developer). Thanks again!
