Between Self Improvement Month, National Singles Week, and National Acne Positivity Day, September may be the month to turn a leaf by focusing on yourself and practicing some self-love/care.

It’s easy to get caught up in the mundane of every day, but this month there are plenty of opportunities to take time for yourself and use that as an excuse (if you need an excuse!) to create content and hopefully inspire others not to forget their care and needs.

Having your own business and being a boss can be emotionally taxing and exhausting. Whether you’re sharing the boundaries you have for social media or just taking some time away from social media for yourself, September is a great chance to unplug for a while and recharge.

Need some content ideas so you can spend more time reconnecting with yourself? Well, scroll on down, friends, and kill two birds with one stone.

September is the month of…

  • National Suicide Prevention Month: September is National Suicide Prevention Month, dedicated to bringing awareness to those who have suffered from the impact of suicide. Along with resources to help those who have mental illness and are more likely to commit suicide. On average, a person commits suicide every 16.2 minutes.
  • Self Improvement Month: This month also celebrates self-improvement and taking small steps to improve your life. Your growth and healing may constantly be changing, but the one constant you can depend on is you. If you decide to honor your energy, yourself, and your happiness, you’ll get to where you’re meant to be one step at a time.
  • International Update Your Resume Month: Along with Self Improvement Month, this is also International Update Your Resume Month. Take some time to look at the growth you’ve made in your job, tweak your resume, and be proud of yourself. You’re doing great!

  • National Self Care Awareness Month: The most important relationship you’ll have during your lifetime is with yourself, yet self-care and getting to know yourself are often overlooked in our grind, grind, grind society. Use this month as an excuse to take more time for yourself, date yourself, and ignite old and new passions.
  • National Honey Month Did you know honey is the only known food with all the ingredients needed to keep someone alive? Honey has water, vitamins, minerals, and the necessary enzymes your body needs to produce energy. This month honors honey, and all of it’s natural wonders.
  • National Piano Month: From pianists to piano makers and even those who just enjoy listening to the instrument, we can celebrate them all this month! Here’s another reason to put on some classical music and jam out. ✌

    • As if we needed another excuse to worship ahem I mean, promote the importance of indoor plants. But this week highlights their significance to our mood and health.
  • National Singles Week (September 19 – September 25)
    • Being single is a unique opportunity you have to rediscover who you are, work on yourself, and heal. That way, your next partner can be a better match for you. This week celebrates the benefits of being single, along with emphasizing the challenges that come with it.

  1. For National Suicide Prevention Week, you can interview a health professional on Instagram Live or create a blog post giving STATS, resources, and preventive measures for suicide.
  1. This National Indoor Plant Week, spend some time in your garden or buy a new indoor plant. In this study titled, Health Benefits of Gardens in Hospitals, they found people recuperating from surgery had a shorter hospital stay. They needed less pain medication if they had a live plant in their room. So if you don’t have some plants take this as the excuse you need to get some.
  1. During National Singles Week, you can share some books on how to navigate this terrain on your own. Some good ones are Single is Your Superpower by Case Kenny and How to be Single and Happy by Jennifer Taitz. Even if you’re in a relationship, you can emphasize the importance of dating yourself and spending time alone to rediscover new layers.
  1. International Week of the Deaf is the perfect opportunity to learn some signs and teach them to your community. You can also educate your audience on the benefits of teaching young children simple communication signals, which are known to speed up their speech development and increase their confidence

Important Days in September

September 1 – National Acne Positivity Day

  • This day is meant to promote self-love and self-acceptance no matter what your skin looks like. While there may be a stigma with having acne, no one judges us harshly than ourselves.

September 3 – National Lazy Mom’s Day

  • Being a parent, especially a mother, when societal pressure and norms put the pressure of child-raising primarily on the mother, this day acknowledges the 24/7 job requirement it takes to be a mom. One where people can get together with others supporting the same sports team while they share food and drinks out of the convenience of their car.

It can be a great and beautiful thing! Some tips from experts: take it slow, allow the children to be loyal to both parents, allow the children to bond with the other adult in ways that feel comfortable to them, don’t force physical contact, and educate yourself as much as possible! Having a successful blended family can be done, and YOU deserve to be happy.

Let’s All Say a Quick Namaste to September

September may be busy with the kids going back to school and the holidays right around the corner, but don’t remember to take care of yourself first. It’s easy to get caught up in the everyday routine and then lose track of the things you love the most. Even if you’re putting a girls’ night on the calendar for National Girls’ Night or National Lazy Moms’ Day, these special holidays can be the excuse you need to let loose for the day.

If self-care doesn’t come easily for you, there’s always the chance to open up about it on social media and explain why everyone deserves time for themselves. Hustle culture only causes burnout, but if you learn to pace yourself, you have a real shot at building something long-lasting and sustainable.

Love yourself first. Later, friends.
