Friday Pinterest Quick Tip: How to Clean up Your Pinterest Account

When you go to your Pinterest account, do you feel like you’re looking at this?

Does it make you crazy when you can’t find what you’re looking for? Never fear, there is a solution and I’m here to help!

 ***Update***

Pinterest has made it easier to rearrange your boards. Now, you simply click on the board you’d like to move and drag it to it’s new position. Be sure to read the tips at the bottom of this post about what order your boards should be in.

****

Have you ever notice that little film strip looking thing next to where it says “Edit Profile”? Click it and you can do magic.

When you click this pops up

You can then click on the individual board and drag it to where you want it. It kind of reminds me of one of those slider puzzle games I used to play as a kid.

Ordering your Pinterest Boards

If your Pinterest account is for personal use, put the boards in an order that make sense to you. For example group holidays together and put fashion boards together.

If you are a blogger or business owner and want to get more Pinterest followers and more traffic back to your site, some of these suggestions might help.

  • Put boards with pins that have links back to your website or blog at the top so they are easy to find.
  • Put boards with popular topics related to your target audience at the top.
  • Put boards with current contest and promotions at the top.
  • Organize boards in an order that makes sense, try to separate boards into groups of similar topics.
  • As the seasons change and promotions end, don’t forget to rearrange your boards or delete expired promotions.

Are your boards organized?

If you know someone who’s boards are a mess and you want to be a kind and compassionate person, please share this post with them. It’s the right thing to do.

Well isn’t that helpful!! I didn’t know you could do that! I really need to work on my boards!

This is great, but even better would be to organize the pins on my individual boards. Especially when I put boards together for my clients. Then I could move the pins around putting all kitchen together, bathroom, outside, bedroom etc. I’ve written them this recommendation/request 4 to 5 times and nothing. Perhaps you could suggest as well? That would help too!

Irene, this is a very popular feature request. I really hope it’s added soon. Thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂

  3. […] Pinterest is great for people to discover new things and to find more about what interests them. Keep this in mind when creating your boards and you’ll be on the right track to becoming a resource for your followers instead of just an advertiser. Also, be sure to choose great board cover images and to keep them organized. […]

I would like to be able to combine boards. I have boards that are so similar, I would like to combine them. I don’t know how to do this without repinning every single pin. That is way too time consuming!! 🙂

Unfortunately, Tammy at this time there is no easy way to do that 🙁 I hope it is a feature Pinterest adds soon.

      Thanks for stopping by.

Great ideas on housekeeping. Would also like to know how do I move pins to the correct boards which I may have accidentally added into another board.

Also I would like to know how do I move 2 boards of almost similar pins into one board.

    Thank you

Is there a way to create something like a sub folder in your pintrest board? I was trying to catalog my knitting patterns so I could find things easier.

Has Pinterest re-done their boards? I can’t seem to find that option. I can edit my profile (like my name, website, etc), but I just can’t seem to find anyway to move the boards around, like you said. I know it’s been several months since you posted this!

Oh, never mind! I just realized that I can move them around without going to “edit.” Thanks, though! This post was helpful!

Cynthia, is there a way to “transfer” pins/boards on a personal acct to a business account? I just learned I should’ve opened a biz acct, not a personal acct, and that’s where I’ve been pinning for 2 years! Yikes!

      Hi Lori,

Thanks so much for stopping by. You can’t transfer specific boards but you can convert your current personal account to a business account. All you need to do is go to business.pinterest.com and click the convert now option just underneath the big red button on the page. 🙂

Thank you for such a quick response! I saw exactly where you said to go, but because I’d already started a biz acct, too (in addition to my personal acct), it’s defaulting to my biz acct. I hate losing 2 years worth of pins, but I also don’t want to manage 2 accts. Not sure what to do now. But I will follow you to get more proactive advice next time! 🙂

    Hi
Can you swap your business account back to personal? I have to many personal pins on my business and no business stuff yet. Thought it would be easier to make it personal then start another business one. As I don’t want to delete all my pins. Thanks in advance.

      Hi Debbie,

So sorry for the delayed response. No, unfortunately it isn’t possible to switch it back to a personal account. You might try emailing Pinterest through the help center and see if they could help you directly. I’ve heard that it can be a challenge to get someone to reply but it might be worth a shot. Best of luck 🙂

I jumped first and thought later! I moved my personal Pinterest account to a business one. Now all my personal boards are lumped together with my paintings and images. Is it possible to reverse course or even create a new personal account and move those personal boards back where they belong. Or am I stuck with what I have? Thanks for your tips and help.

      Hi Sharyn,

Unfortunately you can’t move boards but you can repin the to secret boards one at a time.

      • Avatar

I emailed Pinterest with my dilemma and had a personal reply a few days later. Yes, Pinterest helped reestablish my personal account and closed the business one without losing any of my hundreds of pins. Thanks for the suggestion to repin to secret boards for a new and separate business account should I decide to go that way in the future.

I think Pinterest is horrible why can I not combine boards or alphabetize my boards they should do that with the push of a button. The app is bad too . . . can you offer suggestions I think they are so behind the times . . never fix or update anything. . .

I agree with you, Missi. There are a few things I would have liked to be able to do but can’t and the tutorials are useless. Also, lately I’m getting tons of pins that were “chosen for me” by Pinterest and that’s not what I want at all; What I do want from Pinterest is to browse around and pin things to my board that I like, not what they think I like. I also hate pinners who over-pin. I’m unfollowing them for sure. Lastly, while I don’t want to pull the plug, I may just have to if using Pinterest continues to be a stressful, rather than fun, pastime.

While this isn’t quite the perfect fix–I just realized you can move and copy pins from one board to another. unfortunately, there is no “select all” option–but perhaps that will come soon!
